ABOUT SHANI WAUGH GOLF
Shani’s Passion
Shani’s first sporting passion, strangely not golf but cricket, was harboured in the streets of South Bunbury with the neighbours' kids. Shani’s love of golf began at the age of 14 when she vividly remembers making her first par and the impact that had on her passion for the game. Bunbury Golf Club was Shani’s first club where she remembers practicing landing balls in between kangaroos on the range and imagining holing putts to win the British Open on the practice putting green.
She gets a kick out of the reaction from first-time juniors when they see the wildlife just hanging out on the range. In addition, Shani has been active in the past 4 years developing her other sporting passion in the South West, playing cricket for the Colts Cricket Club women’s team and sitting on the Bunbury & Districts Cricket Association committee. This combination has helped fuel the vision to create a centre for sportspeople of the South West.
Shani’s Career
Shani turned professional in January 1991 at the age of 21. She developed a highly successful international career with highlights including winning 3 times on the Ladies European Tour, losing a playoff in the 2003 Chick-fil-A Charity Championship on the LPGA and finishing 3rd in the 2002 US Women’s Open.
As a teaching professional Shani runs the Shani Waugh Golf School which is a well-respected business catering for all level of golfers. Shani has learned so much from her own coaches, peers and fellow players and believes this experience has enabled her to offer coaching to a wide variety of golfers, ranging from first time participants through to established club golfers and elite level performers.

“I believe that whether I am working with my students or in a more administrative environment, I am a reliable, honest and enthusiastic team member. A memorable day at work for me is when my students achieve their milestones and seeing others on the path towards sustained improvement. A special mention has to be the sight of a new golfer’s reaction when experiencing THAT perfect contact for the first time. That’s right up there!”

Shani’s Future Goals
Shani is keen to continue to contribute to supporting the development of a realistic golfing pathway for all golfers. Shani has designed and activated programs and provided additional coaching expertise throughout the South West for both experienced and new golfers of all ages and abilities. Shani developed a strong beginner women's program initially based at the Bunbury Golf Club and is planning to introduce an indoor version through the new venture at SWISH Bunbury. These programs will also take participants onto a golf course to enhance their skills in the “real world.”
Shani also identified the need for keen golfers to add some practice, drills, and competitive scenarios that mimic as closely as possible a "real" golf experience. In keeping with this philosophy, Shani added short game "Master Classes" and "Practice Squads" to the programs available. These were aimed at golfers who want to add some finesse to the technical areas of their game.
In mid-2021, Shani took the available practice sessions to the next level by introducing the Game Development Program. As every golfer has their own set of strengths and weaknesses and no two golfers are the same, this program catered to those students who sought significant and sustained improvement. These development options will be available at SWISH Bunbury, and Shani is keen to use her state-of-the-art facility to develop the very keen golfers in the region to their full potential.
